The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is an admissions test used by universities to select applicants for medicine, dentistry, and clinical science degrees. The UCAT is a relatively new test in Australia, replacing the Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT) in 2019.

The UCAT consists of five different sections, each with their own unique question types. The five sections are:

  • Verbal Reasoning
  • Decision Making
  • Quantitative Reasoning
  • Abstract Reasoning
  • Situational Judgement

The test is not part of regular VCE studies, and is an additional computer-based test held in July each year. The test is required for nearly all undergraduate medical degrees in Australia.

Studying UCAT, at TuteSmart

The UCAT is one of the most difficult and competitive tests around. TuteSmart’s UCAT program helps students improve their weaknesses, build on their strengths, and develop unique thought patterns required to succeed in the UCAT.

TuteSmart tutors not only support students academically, but also provide motivation through what ultimately prove to be the first steps of many students’ medical or health science careers.

In Victoria, undergraduate Medicine entry is based equally on the ATAR, the UCAT, and interview results, meaning one two-hour test is worth as much as the entire VCE. UCAT questions are challenging and abstract, and different from any other SAC or examination through the VCE journey.

All TuteSmart UCAT students receive access to weekly classes, one-on-one help as needed, online resources, assessments, and a whole lot more. See here for full details.
